Based on a true story,Everest ‘82 is a major television mini-series for CBC in Canada.
An eclectic and combative mix of characters go to climb the world’s tallest and most historic peak. Laurie Skreslet has just lost his best friend in a climbing accident that he believes he should have been able to prevent. As the expedition treks through the dramatic Nepalese countryside toward Everest, the angry conflicts between the expedition leaders do little to reassure the deep doubts Laurie has about climbing and the guilt he feels over his friend’s death.
No sooner are they on the mountain than a huge avalanche kills three of them. Two days later, a collapse of ice seracs crushes another. The media turns against them, the sponsors cut off supplies and tell them to come home. The mountain is too unstable. Half of the climbers leave. As the rest are about to go, Laurie digs deep to find inspiration and becomes convinced that they must go on. Inspired by the ghosts of past climbs, deaths and triumphs, he and a small group decide to give it one last try.
This extreme adventure dramatic mini-series, based on Skreslet’s 1982 climb, is filmed in Canada’s Rocky Mountains and Nepal. Everest ‘82 features the human drama of man against the most terrifying and exhilarating forces of nature on the planet. And with stakes as high as life itself, the struggle to climb the world’s highest peak by a handful of fiercely independent climbers will only be possible by a few lucky men whose skill and stamina align in the Zone of Death for a few short hours with the blessing of the Mother Goddess herself, Mount Everest.
